Bali Wedding

Sometimes life has a funny way of working out. This romantic Bali Wedding will inspire you. Brooke was just trying to get home to Western Australia from Dubai, but a detour through Bali changed everything when she met Rhys! Everyone who visits the island knows that this beautiful place always holds something special in store for you every time you visit. For Brooke and Rhys on this occasion, it was love.

From their first meeting in Bali amongst friends (thanks to that one-night layover) to Rhys casually saying he was going to marry Brooke the day after they met, this couple proved that sometimes, fate has an incredible sense of humour. Fast forward a few dates in Manila and Dubai (exotic), and they were officially inseparable!

In December 2021, Rhys proposed on Cable Beach in Broome and he made sure it was exactly how Brooke had always dreamt it. It was an intimate moment, just them and the golden glow of the sunset. It was all that they needed to know that this was their forever and their plans for a Bali wedding had begun, back to the special place that brought them together.

Rhys and Brooke turned to the beachfront Hotel Komune and their beautiful team to host their Bali wedding as they were drawn to the incredible location at Keramas, which is away from the hustle of the island. With wedding accommodation on site, you and your guests can slip right into relaxation mode from the moment you arrive and as the celebrations roll on.

Motion House Weddings beautifully captured the magic of Brooke and Rhys’ love story on this secluded beach with its unique black sand. Their talented Bali wedding team made sure every moment was nothing short of stunning, from getting ready, to intimate moments shared between the newly-weds, with their imagery of the couple on Keramas beach taking on a whole new dynamic thanks to its incredible surroundings and a gorgeous, loved up couple.

We spoke to Brooke to get all of the details of her and Rhys’ special day and find out how they did their day exactly how THEY wanted it, because in Brooke’s words “We didn’t want our wedding to be boring”, keep reading to hear about the best day of their lives and all of the details that made it perfect.

About Us…

How we met: We met in Bali at the end of 2019. I was living in Dubai working for Emirates and was travelling back to Perth for my friend’s engagement party. I was on staff travel and all the flights to Perth were full so my only way home was via Bali…call it destiny! Brooke (Rhys’s sister) who also worked at Emirates was currently on annual leave in Bali with a group of friends, including her brother Rhys. I thought I might as well make the most of being in Bali for a night so decided to meet up with the group. Rhys and I hit it off straight away and the next day he told me he was going to marry me – I obviously didn’t believe him but here we are! We then had our second date in Manila Philippines and third date in Dubai where we made it official.

The proposal: Rhys proposed to me on 29th December 2021 on Cable Beach in Broome, we were visiting our friends that live up there. I always said to Rhys that I didn’t want a showy or cringy proposal just something intimate and special to us.. We both love the beach and sunsets so he
took me to the beach for sunset, it was just us and it was perfect. We then met up with our friends to celebrate with champagne and a beautiful seafood dinner.

Advice for future Bali Brides: Establish what your priorities are for the day and go all out on them – for example our priorities were having great photos/ videos of the day. We also didn’t want our wedding to be boring, so for us entertainment was a priority and Lydia really gets the party started! I would also advise future brides to not feel like they have to do what they have seen at other weddings – you can really make it your own so do what YOU want. For example we decided not to have bridal parties, although we still got ready with a few close friends.

Where did you find your styling inspiration for your Bali wedding?

I got a lot of inspiration from instagram- wedding pages such as @thewed, @VogueWeddings and @thebridaljourney. When bringing my ideas to life and creating a mood board I got inspiration from Pinterest.

What was the hardest part about planning a destination wedding?

Not being able to call in and physically go see the venue. You also have to be really organised when packing – I had a checklist to make sure I didn’t forget anything.

Why did you choose Bali as your wedding destination?

Rhys and I met there so it holds a very special place in both of our hearts. I was a bit nervous about having a big wedding but something about Bali calms me. It was also a plus that it’s so close to Perth so family and friends were able to travel for it and it’s become a great memory for
all of our guests as it wasn’t just a wedding to remember but a holiday to remember too!

How did you stay organised while planning a destination wedding?
To-do lists in order of priority and clear and constant communication with our wedding planner
